Degree in Applied Foreign Languages - Multilingualism and Information Society

The emergence of an information and knowledge society has deepened the need to spread information, audiovisual products, and hold international multilingual conferences. Also, it led several international universities to the creation of Bachelor's Degrees in Applied Foreign Languages. The scale of such activities, resulting from the globalization of markets and, on a smaller scale, from multiculturalism in the digital world, began to require new professionals able to work in a new technological environment. Within this context, the creation of the present Bachelor's Degree aims to fill this gap. The graduates will be capable of operating both in national and international public and private sectors, as well as in the third sector and the academic area.

The Bachelor's Degree in Applied Foreign Languages - Multilingualism and Information Society (LEA-MSI) is suitable for those interested in learning foreign languages from the perspective of its use in areas such as the reinforcement or inclusion of new languages in the digital world, terminology, audiovisual translation, international conferences organization, linguistic censuses, creation of dictionaries, among others. It is essential to highlight that the readiness to act in multicultural and multilingual environments is a significant criterion of this new course. Students have a wide range of research and extension activities throughout the graduation.

Created in 2010, the Bachelor's Degree in LEA-MSI is the only one in Brazil focused on Multilingualism and the Information Society. LEA-MSI students receive a solid education in two foreign languages, to be chosen between English, French, and Spanish, and must complete 40 credits of one or more other languages, totaling 120 foreign language credits. There are also specific courses in different areas that must be studied, such as audiovisual, terminology, and multilingualism in the digital world. Every student must undergo a mandatory Supervised Internship in public, private, or NGO institutions and submit an End-of-Course Work.
