SUMMARY:

“Introduction: The significant increase in the manifestations of infectious diseases around the world has become more evident since the last quarter of the 20th century, coinciding with the enlargement flow of people. In the 1970s, faced with a scenario of increasing incidence of diseases, there was a transition of surveillance responsibilities to each country, driving the development of strategies to make this process more agile and sensitive to emerging health needs. In Brazil, health surveillance has evolved, consolidated and operates in accordance with tactics that seek to optimize the process, making it more sensitive and timelier. The approach developed, stimulated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and adopted by the Center for Strategic Information on Health Surveillance (CIEVS), as well as by its network of 190 units, is the Epidemic Intelligence from Open Source (EIOS) platform applied to daily routine of health surveillance. Objective: Evaluate the EIOS platform in Event-Based Surveillance activities in Brazil, detail the platform's usage profile and challenges identified during the use of EIOS. Objectives: Evaluate the EIOS platform in EventBased Surveillance activities in Brazil, detailing its usage profile and challenges identified during the management of the platform. Methodology: To support the evaluation study, a scoping review study will be developed aimed at mapping the state of the art on health signal and event detection tools, which are used at a global level. For the evaluation study, the methodology used is descriptive and evaluative research, with a quantitative and qualitative nature that will use secondary data, originating from the responses to the user experience questionnaire, developed by the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), applied to health surveillance professionals who carry out their activities through CIEVS units allocated in the national territory and the evaluation will be based on the criteria stipulated by the CDC. Expected results: Describe the use of the EIOS platform; map the state of the art on health signal and event detection tools; and evaluate the platform according to simplicity, flexibility, platform acceptability, sensitivity, representativeness, opportunity and stability.”
