SUMMARY:
Questionable research practices have received increasing attention in the scientific literature. Examples of these practices involve reporting only cases that worked or only non-rejected hypotheses, hypothesizing after knowing the results, and rounding down the p-value in a hypothesis test to reach significance. Recent studies in the field of administration have found high levels of involvement in questionable practices and such results have fueled extensive debate about damage to the construction of scientific knowledge, production of false claims and the potential to mislead students, teachers and professionals who use scientific knowledge to develop their research. and projects. However, systemic pressures, incentives that are related to the structure of the academic career and evaluation criteria that focus on quantity over quality increasingly encourage the use of questionable practices. Also, factors such as the perceived ethical climate in the area, the researcher's ethical positioning and his moral sensitivity play a relevant role in the face of ethical dilemmas involving academic publications. In view of the above, the objective of the present study is to understand the configuration of contextual factors relevant to the involvement of Brazilian researchers in the field of administration in questionable research practices, within the scope of quantitative and qualitative research. To this end, a research will be conducted that is based on the interpretative philosophical position, of a qualitative type, which is classified as exploratory and descriptive.
The approach used will be the case study, which is classified as unique, typical and instrumental. The case chosen was that of Brazil, in view of suggestions that reinforce the need for research on questionable practices beyond the North American and European context, due to the particularities and cultural differences existing between countries. The analysis unit of interest is unique and refers to management researchers. The research information sources will be multiple, encompassing public documents made available by selected graduate programs, interviews with researchers with high and low production and focus groups to discuss the results found. Data analysis will consist of thematic analysis and content analysis, using the IRAMUTEQ textual analysis software as support. Finally, it is worth noting that the research has the potential for methodological, theoretical, practical and social contributions that encompass the context of questionable practices and also the ethical climate of the administration area.
