Retention in corporate training: development and application of a generic assessment instrument

Organizations have made high annual investments in training and development, however the field still presents theoretical and methodological challenges. One of these challenges is related to the phenomenon of retention, which is defined as how much the changes that occur in an individual, measured in terms of knowledge, skills or behaviors, and which are the result of training, remain over time. This phenomenon is adopted, therefore, as the focus of the present work. And it is from the identification of the production of knowledge on this subject that the objective of this research project is born: to develop and apply a generic instrument for evaluating retention in corporate training. To achieve this objective, two studies will be carried out. Study 1 aims to build and investigate evidence of validity of a generic tool to assess retention in corporate training. Study 2 aims to apply the instrument developed in the previous study in a multiple regression analysis between retention (criterion variable), self-efficacy (predictor variable) and support for training transfer (predictor variable). The studies will be conducted with workers from a financial institution, graduates of training carried out in self-instructional and live online modalities. It is understood that achieving these objectives will bring methodological contributions to studies on retention, by presenting a generic instrument for its evaluation, in addition to theoretical contributions to understanding the relationship between the retention variable and the variables self-efficacy and support for transferring training
