MEASUREMENT OF INNOVATION RESULTS: A STUDY BASED ON THE TRIPLE HELIX FROM THE COMPANY’S PERSPECTIVE

This thesis project is a research project designed to measure the results of innovations in companies participating in a collaborative Triple Helix (TH) arrangement in Brazil. This research gap was explored in recent literature and its main difference is the object of measurement and the context in which it is applied. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was carried out in order to gain a better understanding of the specialized literature on the subject and to look for conceptual frameworks to provide theoretical support for the research, as well as to identify the econometric models and variables best suited to measuring the results of innovation in a Triple Helix arrangement. Through the SRL, it was possible to identify the two theories most used in current work dealing with the measurement of innovation results: the Resource-Based View and its extension, the Dynamic Capabilities View. The Structural Equation Model was also identified as the most appropriate econometric instrument for the context in question. In addition, the RSL made it possible to recognize the main effects of the innovations measured, which will make up the variables that will form part of the questionnaire that will serve as a tool for capturing the data needed for the research. As this is a questionnaire based on the literature, it will need to be validated. To this end, validation interviews will be held with managers from the three propellers that make up the TH arrangement [Government, Industry and University] and with experts who are recognized as working in the field of innovation. The conceptual model to be tested concerns the synergistic influence of the actors that make up TH on the production of innovation in Brazil, as well as the fact that the innovations implemented through this collaborative arrangement are fundamental to organizational performance. Thus, the intention is that this study will contribute to theoretical advances in the field of innovation, with the support of the two theories mentioned, and in practical terms, it will be useful both for managers, who need to understand the importance of measuring the innovative results of their organizations, and for political agents, given that in the TH arrangement the government is an active component as one of the propellers.
