Effectiveness of organizational teams: the role of virtuality

This thesis project proposes a model for investigating relationships between the constructs of team virtuality, work design, and team effectiveness. To this end, the literature analysis is carried out in the light of constant reflections on seminal works, literature reviews, and meta-analyses to offer subsidies for research on the topics covered. Understanding the phenomenon seems to require more in-depth effort related to the characteristics of the work carried out and the context in which the team is inserted. Challenges related to the conceptualization and, consequently, the measurement of team virtuality are presented, as well as research gaps related to the central constructs of this project. The thesis is that virtuality influences the relationships between work design and team effectiveness. Regarding the organization of the text, in addition to the introduction, this project is structured into six sections. In section two (2), the theoretical framework is presented, consisting of the subsections team effectiveness (2.1); virtuality (2.2); analysis of the literature on the effectiveness of organizational teams in a virtual context (2.3); teamwork design (2.4); and gaps and the research agenda derived from the analyzed literature (2.5). In section three (3), the theoretical model is presented. In section four (4), the methodological aspects of this project are listed, namely research design (4.1), field characterization (4.2), and details of the proposed methodological procedures (4.3). In section five (5), the expected results are described, and in section six (6), the schedule of activities planned for the period 2023-2024 is presented. The references conclude this research project. It is suggested that teams with better work design are more effective even at different levels of virtuality.
